West Stow boasts an impressive sand-filled play area that quickly became a favorite for our children. With climbing frames, slides, and imaginative spaces, it’s the perfect spot to let the kids run free. Whether it’s clambering up towers or sliding down slides, there’s plenty to keep them from asking is it home time yet.
West Stow Woodland Walks and Tree Climbing
The surrounding woodland is perfect for adventurous kids and nature-loving adults. Our children loved climbing the many trees scattered along the paths, while we enjoyed the tranquility of the forest....we wish! We were up every tree with them. It’s the ideal place to explore, whether you’re looking for a leisurely stroll or a full-blown nature trek.
The Carved Dragon at West Stow
One of the highlights for us was the carved dragon, which seems to rise from the ground, with its body hidden beneath a mound. This imaginative sculpture captivated the kids, sparking stories and play around this mythical creature. Ride it, climb on it or create a dragon themed game, there is so much fun to be had from a s simple sculpture.
West Stow Lakes and Wildlife
The lakes at West Stow are teeming with birdlife, making it a great spot for budding wildlife enthusiasts. Within just an hour, we were lucky enough to see swans, Egyptian geese, a duclair duck, and even a barn owl – a truly magical moment for the whole family. While we spotted signs of otters, they remained elusive on this visit.

For a quieter moment, the bird hide is fantastic. It’s a peaceful spot where you can watch a variety of birds feeding, offering a calm and educational experience for children and parents.
